Bhaktraj Shree Narottam Thakkar

Among the Vedic scholars of Umreth, Shree Narottam Thakkar was considered a frontline intellectual. He was a close relative of Roopram Thakkar, the pillar of the Umreth Satsang. Although he possessed vast wealth, eloquent speech, and the prestige associated with Vedic science and scholarship, he always worshiped Bhagwan Shree Swaminarayan and served the Satsang with a spirit of humble servitude (das bhav).

Whenever Maharaj performed a yagna in Vadtal or other villages, Narottam Thakar did not go merely to recite mantras, but specifically to perform manual seva. Alongside his scholarship, he also contributed his wealth to these yagnas. Together with three or four other devotees, he would arrange for the cooking and serving of meals for both the Satsangis and Maharaj.

Shree Narottam Thakar had four sons. All four of these sons were prominent leaders both within the Swaminarayan Sampraday and their community.
