Jivuba’s Thaal

In the Darbar of Dada Khachar, there was a small, pious room dedicated to the murti of Shree Vasudev Narayan. Jivuba performed immense seva of this murti with a heart full of silent longing. She had a deep, secret wish: she wanted to personally feed Bhagwan Shree Swaminarayan the food she cooked, but at the time, Shree Hari was not physically present in the darbar.

One afternoon, Jivuba prepared a grand feast. She arranged various delicacies and offered the Thaal to the murti of Shree Vasudev Narayan. As she began her prayers, a miracle unfolded. The murti of Vasudev Narayan manifested into the living form of Shree Hari. To the utter amazement of Jivuba and the other ladies such as Laduba and Rajbai, Shree Hari began to physically eat the thaal from the dishes. They watched in breathless joy as the bowls were emptied by a divine hand.

Later that day, Shree Hari, who had gone to Laxmi Vadi, returned to the darbar. He looked at Jivuba and spoke with a knowing smile:

“O Virtuous One! I knew the sincere desire of your heart. You wanted to feed me yourself, but because of my vow as a Brahmin and celibate, you could not serve me directly. Therefore, out of love for my devotee, I manifested through the murti of Vasudev Narayan to accept your offering. Today, I have eaten the thaal because of your faith.”

Overwhelmed with gratitude, Jivuba and the sisters bowed in prostration. They realized that while rules and customs exist for the world, Bhagwan will always find a way to answer the call of pure, selfless love.

This prasang has been documented by Aadi Acharya Shree Raghuvirji Maharaj in the 58th chapter of Shree Durgapur Mahatmya.
