Paramchaitanyanand Swami’s Unusual Prasad

During a grand celebration in the village of Panchala, the devotee Jinabhai meticulously gathered all the necessary materials for a vibrant festival of Rangotsav. Bhagwan Shree Swaminarayan personally took charge of the event, ensuring that the santo were provided with bamboo pichkaris and colorful powders. As part of the preparations, Shree Hari also distributed portions of khadi (a fine, white clay) and sandalwood paste, intended for the santo to apply as devotional marks on their foreheads.

Among the gathered assembly was Paramchaitanyanand Swami, a sadhu renowned for his profound state of spiritual absorption and detachment from his physical body. When Shree Hari handed him his portion of the white clay, Swami was so deeply lost in a transcendental daze that he did not realize its actual purpose. Believing that Shree Hari had handed him a piece of sanctified food or prasad, Swami ate the entire portion of clay without hesitation.

The following day, as the sabha of santo and haribhakto sat before Him, Shree Hari shared the story of the previous afternoon with great joy. Shree Hari laughed heartily as He described Swami’s detached state, calling him a videhi—one who has completely transcended bodily consciousness. He jokingly told the sabha that Swami was so immersed in the bliss of Bhagwan that he had no awareness of worldly objects, viewing even common clay as a divine gift to be consumed. The haribhakto marveled at this display of pure, unselfconscious devotion, realizing the spiritual height of the santo in the company of Shree Hari.

This prasang has been documented by Sadguru Shree Adharanand Swami in Pur 25, Tarang 9 of Shree Haricharitramrut Sagar.
