While staying in the kingdom of Dharampur, Bhagwan Shree Swaminarayan became aware of a deep-seated desire in the heart of the pious Queen Kushalkuvarba. Out of her intense devotion and a wish to be surrendered completely to Shree Hari, she had intended to offer her entire kingdom and its sovereignty to Maharaj, wanting Him to rule the land.
Upon learning of her intention, Shree Hari immediately summoned the Queen to address her thoughts. Despite being surrounded by royal splendor, Maharaj spoke with absolute detachment, telling her, “I have not come to this place to rule over a kingdom; you must understand this clearly”. He explained that His mission was spiritual and that He had no interest in worldly power or administration.
To emphasize His sankalp, Maharaj even declared that the plans to invite a large number of devotees for the upcoming Vasant Panchami festival in Dharampur would be canceled. He informed the Queen that He intended to depart immediately and told her that she must continue to look after her kingdom as her own responsibility.
Overwhelmed by Maharaj’s firm renunciation, Queen Kushalkuvarba bowed with joined hands and confessed her limited understanding. She told Maharaj that her only true goal was to please Him and that she would follow whatever command Shree Hari gave, acknowledging that she knew nothing compared to Maharaj’s divine wisdom. Through this act, Bhagwan Shree Swaminarayan demonstrated to all that the Lord of the universe remains entirely untouched by the lure of worldly kingdoms.
